Tobs add former Pitt star Hogan
The Tobs announced another piece to the puzzle today, and one
with local ties to boot.
Outfielder Nick Hogan, a former star at nearby Pitt Community
College, will bring another exciting option to the Fleming
Stadium outfield for 2008.
"We are excited to have Nick with us this summer. A speedy
outfielder with lots of CPL experience," said Tobs head coach
Jeff Steele. "Nick is going to be relied upon to anchor our
outfield as well as be a sparkplug at either end of our lineup."
Hogan, a 5'11" 180 pound left-handed bat returned to his
native Georgia in 2008 to attend Georgia St. Through his first
four games in 2008, Hogan had collected four hits (including
three four extra bases), 2 RBI and 1 stolen base.
Offensive prowess is nothing new to the Atlanta born Hogan,
who put up impressive stats in two seasons at Pitt. After a
freshman campaign which saw him hit .423 with 20 RBI and 26
stolen bases, Hogan collected 59 hits last season (hitting .360)
while driving in 32 runs and swiping 24 bags. |

Tobs tap Raleigh pitcher Adleman
The latest addition to the Wilson Tobs 2008 pitching staff
will bring in some local flavor, as the team announced the
signing of former Wakefield star Tim Adleman.
Adleman, a 6'5" right-hander, will complete his sophomore
season at Georgetown University in 2008. At the time of his
signing, he was already off to a strong start. Through eight
games, the Hoyas had posted a record of 5-3, with Adleman
picking up two of those wins. In his two starts, Adleman had
compiled 15 innings pitched, 10 strikeouts and two walks.
"Tim is an experienced right handed pitcher who throws three
pitches for strikes in any count," said Tobs Head Coach Jeff
Steele. "He is extremely competitive and we look forward to him
solidifying our starting rotation this summer."
After twice being selected all-conference at Wakefield,
Adleman contributed right away to the Hoyas during his freshman
season in 2007. He compiled three wins in 9 starts, pitching the
third most innings on the Georgetown staff (65.1) while totaling
55 strikeouts and two complete games, both in Big East
Conference Play.
Adleman spent the 2007 summer season pitching for the North
Adams (Massachusetts) SteepleCats of the New England Collegiate
Baseball League, making 6 starts and two relief appearances. He
posted a 3-0 record with a 3.68 ERA and 1 save against wood bat
competition. |

Tobs Seeking Host Families
The Tobs are actively seeking host families for the 2008
season. As a member of the Coastal Plain League, all of the Tobs
players are student-athletes, currently enrolled in college and
participating in college baseball. All Coastal Plain League
players are unpaid and retain their amateur status. The Tobs
attempt to place players with local families during the summer
to assist with housing costs. Host families are required only to
provide a clean, private place to sleep, a shower and laundry
facilities.
All host families receive four complimentary season tickets
and other benefits. Tobs General Manager, Benjamin Jones stated,
"These student-athletes are extremly grateful for the
opportunity to live with a host family and the stability that
they will receive in order to continue their success in
baseball. We have many families that have been participating in
this program for years and develop long-lasting and rewarding
friendships with their players." The Tobs are also seeking
living accomodations for all summer interns and the radio
broadcaster.
Anyone who is interested in becoming a host family should
call the Tobs office at (252) 291-8627. |
