The 2006 Babe Ruth Baseball 14-Year Old World Series will be held in Wilson, North Carolina, August 19-26, and will be hosted by the Wilson County Youth Athletic Association. The World Series will be played at historic Fleming Stadium.

By hosting the 2006 World Series, the W.C.Y.A.A. will have hosted five World Series in seven years, which is unprecedented. The 2000 Babe Ruth Softball 12U World Series, the 2001 Babe Ruth Baseball 13-Year-Old World Series, the 2003 12 Under Softball World Series, and the 2004 14-year old Baseball World Series, were huge successes.

Over the past eight years, the W.C.Y.A.A. has also hosted three Babe Ruth Regional Tournaments, fifteen Babe Ruth State Tournaments, and 12 District Tournaments.

The W.C.Y.A.A. was established in 1953, incorporated in 1990, and affiliated with Babe Ruth Baseball and Softball since 1995. Activities offered include softball, baseball, tackle football, boys’ and girls’ basketball, and soccer. Over 115 baseball and softball teams participated in the W.C.Y.A.A.’s 2006 spring season and 72 in its 2005 fall season. The total participation in all activities for the 2004-2005 athletic year was 3,750.

Fleming Stadium is an outstanding site for the World Series. Built in 1936, Fleming Stadium has undergone numerous changes in the past few years. New seating, a new scoreboard, new fencing, and an upgraded press box are just a few of the changes. A grass infield highlights the playing surface. The field is well maintained by the City of Wilson Parks and Recreation staff.

Fleming Stadium seats over 3,000 fans. Over the years, such great players as Harmon Killebrew, Carl Yastrzemski, Rod Carew, Jimmy Fox, Mickey Mantle, Robin Roberts, Cal Ripken Senior, and Ted Williams have played in the stadium. Presently, the stadium is host to the Wilson Tobs, a collegiate baseball team. Fleming Stadium is also host to the North Carolina State Baseball Museum.

Incorporated in 1849, Wilson is located 45 miles east of Raleigh, the state capitol of North Carolina. Wilson boasts a collection of historic buildings and faithfully preserved fine southern homes.
