The W.C.Y.A.A. met on Monday, October 16th, at the
W.C.Y.A.A. offices in Lucama. Those in attendance were as follows: Gay Varnell
(LW), Tim Nichol (EC), and Charlotte Taylor (Saratoga). Athletic Director
Mickey Davis presided over the meeting. New Hope, Lucama, and Rock Ridge were
not represented.
Topics discussed were as follows:
2006-2007 Basketball
- Signup
information due now for each community. Mickey has received info for Elm
City, Lucama, and Rock Ridge.
- Six
signups are required by each community
- Last
signup date is November 18th.
- All paperwork
including individual signup forms, roster sheets, and fees are due
December 1st between the hours of 8:30am and 5:00pm at the
W.C.Y.A.A. offices.
- Community
colors were discussed at length. Each community needs to stay within their
color scheme in case a community wishes to purchase only tee-shirts and
not reversible jerseys. If a community has two teams in the same age
division and does not purchase the reversible jerseys, they can use the
small pullovers that fit directly over their team tee-shirts.
- Community
colors: Saratoga/Navy Rock
Ridge/Royal Elm City/Gold Lucama/Red New Hope/Charlotte Bobcats colors Lee Woodard/Black
- No
numbers above “5” can used for basketball jerseys. An example is that “55”
can be used but not “56”. Please notify your teams/coaches/screen-printers
of this rule. “0” or “00” maybe used but not on the same team.
- Also
discussed was an admission fee of $1.00 for all adults and 50 cents for
all school age children (not players). These monies would stay in the
community to help off set the cost of paying for the use of the
gymnasiums. Mickey told each community to talk with their people and get
back with him on Monday, October 23, by 5:00pm.
- Mickey
explained the cost of the gymnasiums to each representative. If a school
has a after school care program, the W.C.Y.A.A. community should have
coaches their before 6:00 so the janitor does not have to re-open the
gymnasium at 6:30. This $20.00 savings per day will make a big difference
over the season. Schools with after school programs are Lucama, Rock
Ridge, Lee Woodard (set to open in either October or November), Gardner’s,
and Elm City. The Elm city Middle School gymnasium used by the New Hope
Sports Commission does not have an after school program but does have basketball
practices and games for the boys and girls that can be worked around.
- Basketball
practices may start on Friday, December 1 at each community but not before
due to insurance rules.
- It was
also suggested that each community sell sponsorships for their teams to
help offset the cost of the gymnasiums. Putting sponsor names on a banner
on the school wall would be great way to raise a few extra funds and also
show your support for a basketball sponsor.
