Mickey discussed the 2006 14 Year Old Baseball World Series. Mickey announced
That he had received notice that the North Carolina State Visitor’s Bureau had donated $10,000.00 and would have the check signing picture taken on Thursday, June 1, in Raleigh.
The committees are still working on a location for the World Series Banquet plus host families. At the present time, the committees have secured 29 host families. That leaves w23 more host families to secure.
The World Series team and the W.C.Y.A.A. staff have sold over $20,500.00 in ads for the Official World Series Program.
In other World Series news, Hubert Vester has donated 14 cars/vans for the 2006 World Series. These vehicles will be used for the team mangers, Babe Ruth Task Force, umpires, and transporting the VIP’s back and forth to the airport. This donation is equal to a $10,000.00 check.
World Series passes for all Wilson County students will be passed out on Friday, June 2, at each school. The individual tickets are good for one day’s admission only.
The schedule of games for the World Series is still being worked on by Babe Ruth headquarters. Hopefully the schedule will be approved in the next few days so the doctors, nurses, and community work schedules can be set.
Mickey passed out the 2006 Summer Softball schedules for the 14U and 16U divisions. Their home games will be played at New Hope field #1, Lee Woodard field #2, and Rock Ridge field #2.
New Hope will host the 8U Rookie District Four Tournament June 26-30 and then the 10, 11, and 12 year old District Four Tournament July 5-10.
Lee Woodard and Lucama will host the 8U Rookie Baseball State Tournament July 5-10. The tournament will be round robin and then single elimination with the top team advancing to the regional.
Lee Woodard will host the 10 team South East Regional 9U Rookie Baseball Tournament July 20-25.
The board discussed the formation of 10U West Baseball and 11U baseball all-star teams in the next week. Both teams failed to fill up in the fall of 2005. Danny Taylor will coach the 10U West All-stars along with Joey Page. The 11U coaching staff will be named later. All players on the 10U West team must come from Lucama, Lee Woodard, or Rock Ridge communities. The 11U team can pull players from any of the six communities.
In district, state, and regional tournament play, Henry Sermons, SER Commissioner, has agreed to change the rules to rule out base stealing but keep bunting in the 8U Rookie Baseball Division. This rule goes into effect with the District Tournament.
Adam Gardner made a motion after much discussion to ban all animals from W.C.Y.A.A. athletic events (this includes ballfields and gymnasiums) immediately. Leslie Pate seconded the motion. The motion passed. Each community is to install signage immediately.
The Wilson County Commissioners have approved the 2006-2007 Fiscal Budget at the same level it has been for the past five years.
The board discussed benefits for the Athletic Director and after much discussion, tabled the matter until the June board meeting.
