be held. They are as follows:
Sunday, December 17 4:00pm
W.C.Y.A.A. Offices
Wednesday, December 20 7:30pm
W.C.Y.A.A. Offices
Wednesday, January 3 7:30pm
W.C.Y.A.A. Offices
All “new” head and assistant coaches must attend one of
the classes in order to coach in game situations. Scorekeepers do not have to
be certified but cannot coach in games. The registration fee is $10.00 per
coach which is payable at the class.
Mickey then discussed the 60 foot bases versus the 70 foot bases and asked representative to get with their 11-12 coaches to discuss this matter further. A vote will be taken during the January, 2007, board meeting on whether to go with the 60 or 70 foot bases. During the discussion, Mickey suggested to the board that the W.C.Y.A.A. furnish portable mounds for each community if they decided to go to the 70 foot bases.
Mickey announced that a district baseball and softball meeting will be held the first Sunday in January, 2007, at the W.C.Y.A.A. offices in Lucama. Times will be announced next week.
Mickey passed out the E.N.C. State Meeting Minutes from December 3, 2006. State Commissioner Wilbur Snipes has been replaced by Mike Cole of Laurinburg, N.C.
Shannon Robbins came to the board meeting to ask that her daughter, Allison, be released from the 2007 12U Softball World Series team due to the fact that she was too young and did not fit in with the 12U team’s young ladies. Shannon had previously discussed the matter with Mickey. Mickey asked her to come to the board meeting and to write a letter with her concerns. The letter was passed out to each board member. Board members asked Shannon questions on why her daughter wanted to quit the team. The W.C.Y.A.A.‘s rule is that once a player makes a select team, if he/she quits the team then they cannot tryout for another W.C.Y.A.A. select team for one year. Shannon felt that there were warranted circumstances for her daughter to quit the team. After much discussion, the board voted with a 4-4 tie with the board upholding the rule.
W.C.Y.A.A. bylaws require all ties be broken by a vote of the Executive Board (Since the W.C.Y.A.A. does not have a Chairman of the Board, the secretary and treasurer breaks all ties). Mickey contacted both the treasurer and secretary and their votes were split leaving the vote 5-5. Mickey contacted Shannon Robbins on Friday morning and gave her the results. Mickey also explained that the W.C.Y.A.A. Board will meet the week of January 8-12 and asked her to attend that meeting. Mickey will send Shannon and her family a letter with the exact date and time.
The W.C.Y.A.A. Board voted to issue equal checks to each of the four communities that worked the 2006 14 Year Old Baseball World Series. Those four communities were Lucama, Rock Ridge, Lee Woodard, and Elm City. The monies were divided five ways (the fifth part goes to the W.C.Y.A.A. regular account to help offset operating expenses) with each community being paid $2,989.06.
The W.C.Y.A.A. will send $100.00 to the SYAA as reimbursement to the 10 players that signed up to play 10U softball during the 2006 Fall Season. The team was coached by Richard Evans and played only 2 games because no other teams could be found to play. The SYAA is to replay each player $10.00 of their registration fee from these monies.
Meeting Adjourned.
