The W.C.Y.A.A. board met on Thursday, March 16, at the W.C.Y.A.A. offices in Lucama. The meeting started at 7:30pm. Those in attendance were as follows: Leslie Pate (Lucama), Richard Evans (Lucama), Jay Collins (Elm City), Ernest Wilson Jr. (Saratoga), Morris Jones (New Hope), Gaye Varnell (LW), Adam Gardner (LW), Kelvin Brinson (RR), and Ashley Barnes (RR). Athletic Director Mickey Davis presided over the meeting.

Topics discussed were as follows:

Mickey passed out a list of coaches that attended the first two coaches certification classes. There is one more class left and that is on Sunday, March 26, at 6:00pm, at the W.C.Y.A.A. offices. Mickey asked the board to make sure that each community to notify their coaches of the last class because they would not be any extra classes.

Mickey passed out copies of the 2006 Spring-Summer Rules (each age division).

Mickey gave the board members a list of the important dates that is listed on the web page.

Rules meetings will be held on March 22 and 23. Mickey asked each community to invite their coaches to the meetings.

2006 World Series Updates:

2)      The Heritage Bank, Dr. Joseph Russell, and The Budd Group

3)      Total Ads sold by the team and the W.C.Y.A.A. office staff as of March 16……$15,000.00

Mickey told the board members that Georgia Bulou from the Wilson County Health Department had contacted him on Wednesday requesting that each community contact her so she can inspect their concession stands. Mickey reminded everyone that the inspection is mandatory.

Mickey has been contacted about the new concerns of tobacco on school property. If the new rule is put in place, the ballfields that we lease from the school system will also be affected. Having to police the ballfields and gyms areas will be a serious concern the W.C.Y.A.A. program. The W.C.Y.A.A. will continue to monitor the newspaper to see the direction the new rules will go.

Mickey asked the board if they wanted to pay $150.00 to keep the non-profit stamp at the post office. The board voted to allow the non-profit status to lapse since none of the six communities uses it anymore. The status was very important when the W.C.Y.A.A. sent out the monthly newsletter. The web page has replaced the newsletter and is much cheaper to operate.

The W.C.Y.A.A. paid the R.R.Y.A.A. $513.00 (171 X $3.00) for the use of the lights and field for the 2005 Fall League Soccer Season.

Mickey asked the board members if any of them had their paperwork and fees ready for the 2006 Spring-Summer Season. New Hope turned their paperwork in on Wednesday. Lucama and Elm City turned in their paperwork at the meeting. Rock Ridge, Saratoga, and Lee Woodard will turn their paperwork and fees in by Monday morning, March 20.

Without the paperwork, the scheduling process cannot start and will be delayed.

Mickey asked each community to send one person to the scheduling meeting on Saturday, March 25, at 8:00am. If the communities do not get their paperwork in by Monday, the schedule meeting will be delayed.

Schedules will be posted on the web page and on the office door by Monday, March 27th.

Ashley Barnes discussed the usage of the spring-loaded machine in the 5-6 co-ed division. He said he felt that the teams had not had enough time to practice with the machine and he felt that the kids would not be successful by using the machine.

A motion made by Ashley Barnes to delay until the 2006 Fall Season to start using the spring loaded pitching machine in the 5-6 co-ed age division. Kelvin Brinson seconded the motion. After much discussion, the board voted by a 7-2 vote to keep the spring loaded machine in the 5-6 co-ed division for the 2006 Spring-Summer Season.

Discussion followed about changing the distance that machine set up on. The rules passed on Sunday, March 11, set the machine distance at 25 feet. The board finally decided to set the distance at 30 feet to start the season. Mickey asked the board members to change their copies of the 5-6 rules to list the new distance as 30 feet. Mickey then changed it on the web page.

Discussion followed on the pre-season tournament that the Rock Ridge community had planned. After the meeting the RRYAA announced there would not be a pre-season tournament.

Meeting adjourned,
