Meeting Minutes:

 

The W.C.Y.A.A. Board met on Wednesday, April 26, at the W.C.Y.A.A. offices at 7:30pm. Those in attendance were as follows: Randy McLawhorn, Ashley Barnes, Kelvin Brinson, Morris Jones, Richard Evans, Leslie Pate, Gay Varnell, and Junior Wilson. Elm City was not represented at the meeting. Athletic Director Mickey Davis presided over the meeting.

 

Topics discussed were as follows:

 

Mickey discussed signups for the ages 13-18 baseball and softball division. The deadline for registrations is May 1st. The 14U softball team is full, one 13 year old baseball is full (14 players), and we need 1 more player to field two teams in the 14-15 division. Mickey is also working on a 16-18 division in baseball. Several players have signed up for the 16U Softball Division.

 

The ENC District Tournament for the 8U Rookie Division will start June 26 at New Hope. All 8U Rookie teams will be allowed to go to the state tournament at Lee Woodard and Lucama fields July 5-10.

 

The District Tournament for the 9, 10, and 12 age divisions will start July 5 and will be held at the New Hope fields. There will not be a tournament for the 11s.

 

The Southeast Regional 8U Rookie Division will be held July 20-25 at the Lee Woodard ballfields. 16 teams will be involved.

 

Mickey passed out scoresheets that are mandatory. No scoresheets will be accepted on any other forms. Mickey gave copies to each community to be given to their coaches. 

 

World Series Update:

 

BB&T has once again approved their donation of $10,000.00 for the 2006n World Series. The pictures of the presentation will take place early next week. Many thanks to Harold Williams and Matt White for their help.

 

Mickey also discussed the committee progress and format for the World Series. Host Families are still need as of April 26, we had 23 host families and needed 29 more. Ad Sales are over $15,500.00 as of today with a goal of $26,000.00.

 

Game pictures are needed for the Wilson Daily Times. Pictures need to be of game action and show close-ups of the players. Team name and player names are also needed. Pictures are due the day after the game to mgd39@wcyaa.org. Pictures must be of high quality. Anyone interested in helping out should call Mickey at either 239-0652 or 230-2467.  

 

Ashley Barnes (RR) made a motion that on all W.C.Y.A.A. baseball and softball games that end in a tie following the completion of the 1 ˝ hour time limit, games will stopped at a maximum of two hours with the game being suspended immediately and no winner declared. The game will be completed at a later date. Richard Evans seconded the motion and the motion passed 8-0.

 

Mickey will review the lightning policy with all umpires in BB & SB to make sure that the safety of all participants is upheld.

 

The board discussed the Rock Ridge Community Challenge. The event dates will be set to avoid conflicts with eth district, state, and regional tournaments.

 

Mickey discussed the fundraisers promotion by Classic Cookie Company and passed out samples of the cookies.

 

Lee Woodard will conduct two fundraisers this summer. The first will be a longest hit and home run contest. The second fundraiser will be a BBQ chicken plate sale. More details will be posted as they are ready.

 

The W.C.Y.A.A. 2006-2007 Fiscal Budget has been sent to the County Manager along with all required paperwork. The budget was increased by $8,000.00 to provide benefits for the athletic director’s position. The benefits will include retirement and hospitalization.  

 

The W.C.Y.A.A. Golf Tournament netted a profit for the W.C.Y.A.A. of $1217.45. Many thanks go to Adam Gardner and Gay Varnell for their efforts in making the Golf Tournament a huge success.

 

Mickey announced that Pepsi will serve as a corporate sponsor for the 2006 World Series and will donate over 500 drinks. Pepsi will also provide drinks for the district, state, and regional tournaments.
