2009-2010 Basketball Rules

2-4 Year Olds

 

***Please Remember That This League Is For The Purpose Of Teaching The Fundamentals Of Basketball Only! Everyone Is A Winner!

 

 

Players must be at least 3 years of age by August 1, 2008. Players cannot turn 5 before August 1, 2008.

 

There will be no end of season tournament.

 

One referee will work all games.

 

The official scorekeeper will keep up with points in the book only as there is no winner or loser by the teams. The clock operator will run the clock in the two quarters of action. The clock will run continuously except when shooting free throws. The score for each team will not be posted on the scoreboard.

 

The defense in the two six minute quarters will be as follows: all defense must be played entirely inside the three point line.

 

One time out will be allowed per team on each given day.

 

No over time periods will be played since each team is a winner.

 

The game will be played on a half court set up using a 6 foot goal.

 

On the change of possession, the offensive player must have free access to return to behind the three point line. No violation will be called unless the offensive played steps out of bounds. Offensive player must carry the basketball completely behind the three point line before he/she starts to score.

 

Fouls will be called as a normal game with a player being disqualified if he/she comments five personal fouls.

 

Coaches are allowed to be on the floor but not on the baselines. Coaches cannot be any farther on the floor than five feet.

 

All head and assistant coaches must be certified in order to help in game situations.

 

No three second calls will be made.

 

The ball must be taken out of bounds at the half court after a score or if the ball goes out of bounds. The offensive team has a free pass to his or her teammates. The offensive team cannot roll the basketball inside the three point line. Once the ball goes inside the three point line, the defensive team may pick up the ball.             

 

No three point shots will be allowed.

 

No traveling will be called unless a player actually runs with the ball.

 

Scoresheets must be left at the home site. The home site will turn in all scoresheets to Mickey by Sunday night at 7:00pm. All 3-4 co-ed instructional players will have their names listed in the paper.  

 

List first and last names of all players plus full team name.

 

Game Format:

 

Players will shoot five free throws each.

 

Players will shot 5 shoots from any location on the floor. 

 

Players will dribble from side line to side line without the help of a coach. One player from each team will go together.

 

Players will play 2 six minute quarters. The clock will run except when free throws are being shot.

 

At the end of the two six minute quarters, those players that have not scored a point (Either a free throw, a field goal, or a goal/free throw in a game situation) will be allowed another opportunity to score) with the assistance of a coach. Those points should be listed on the official scoresheet also.
