The W.C.Y.A.A. has grown tremendously over the past 15 years due to the many volunteers that make up our program. The volunteers work very hard in preparing the fields, operating concession stands, up-keeping the fields, and promoting the program. They are the key to our program!
The W.C.Y.A.A. offers basketball for ages 3-17 with the season running from January 1 to March 1. The Spring-Summer baseball and softball program for ages 3-17 runs from the first week in April to the middle of June. The fall season baseball and softball for ages 3-15 runs from early September to the end of October. The Spring Soccer season runs from March 4 to May 22. The Fall Soccer season runs from September 1 to November 15. Each soccer season ends with all-star games and trophy presentations to each participant.
The W.C.Y.A.A.'s newest program is our Cal Ripken Buddy Ball Program. The program started in the spring of 2007. Thirty-one players played during our first season. The program is designed for mentally and physically challenged players ages 5-20. The program will continue in the fall of 2007 and then each year in March and September. If you know of anyone that may fit the Buddy Ball criteria, please have them call the W.C.Y.A.A. offices.
The W.C.Y.A.A. started two new programs in the fall of 2005. Girl's Volleyball for ages 6-13 and Flag Football for ages 4-6 and 7-9 will run from September 26 to the middle of November. Over 60 young players are participating in both the flag football and volleyball programs during the 2006 Fall Season. The 2007 Spring Season will also offer girl's volleyball. The season will run from the first week in March until the first week in April! Over 75 young ladies are expected to participate !
The W.C.Y.A.A. annually hosts Babe Ruth Baseball and Softball Tournaments. From district, state, regional, and World Series events, each summer is full of visitors from all over our state and nation. Three more major events are scheduled in 2007......the Babe Ruth 12U Softball World Series with 10 teams from all over our great nation, the Eastern North Carolina State Babe Ruth Softball Tournament (45-50 teams from Raleigh to the coast), and the first Annual Babe Ruth National Softball Tournament for the 10U Age Division will all come to Wilson County. These teams will bring great baseball excitement along with thousands of fans! Tons of volunteers will be needed to make the tournaments a huge success!
The W.C.Y.A.A. has already lined up major tournaments for the future. In 2008, the Southeast Babe Ruth Softball Regional will come to town. 45-50 teams from eight states will advance to Wilson with the champions in the 12U and 16U Divisions advancing to the World Series.
In addition to all these great events, BRL, Inc. has the W.C.Y.A.A. at the top of its lists for the 2009 12U Softball and 2010 12 Year Old Baseball World Series efforts. Not bad for a little youth organization!
